Half Dome – Yosemite Musing

I find myself at the Yosemite Westgate Lodge. A nice 4 building, 2 story motel complex on Hwy 120, 10 miles east of Groveland. If you are in need of a place and cannot get into the park, this works. $210 for a huge room that holds us 3 easily. My brother came out to do the hike – he flew in from Georgia. He did my first hike with me in 1990. We shall see what kind of shape he is in! A High School buddy from last century also flew in from Florida.  He did the hike last year. Both are setting up the old “knee” excuse. We’ll sightsee tomorrow. Here’s a tip.  You can stay in any National Forest for free without a permit. You just cannot build a fire. Read that again. Yosemite is surrounded by National Forests. Plop down your tent down and enjoy.

Unrelated thought worth quoting: “Well I saw the thing comin' out of the sky. It had the one long horn, one big eye.  I commenced to shakin' and I said "ooh-eee." It looks like a purple eater to me.” – Ray Stevens
