Half Dome – Yosemite Musing

As we get closer to taking our trips up Half Dome again this year, I thought it would be useful to review the park admission fees. The simplest is $20 per carload and you can tape your receipt to the window and get in again for up to 7 days – at any entrance. If you arrive after the gate attendants leave for the day, you can enter, but you need to pay when you leave. Thus the request for everyone to show their receipt as you exit. If you are a real deadbeat and come and go when no one is there – I guess you can scam your way in. Not cool. If you arrive on motorcycle, foot, bike, yak, rickshaw etc., they will charge you $10. If you are 62 or older, you can get in for LIFE for at $10 fee – so pick up those hitchhiking seniors to help you out!  Personally, I get the America the Beautiful–National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Annual Pass for $80. This gets you into any of these facilities nationwide for a full year. So if you scoot about and visit other places it’s real handy.

Unrelated thought worth quoting: “I never saw a discontented tree. They grip the ground as though they liked it, and though fast rooted they travel about as far as we do.” – John Muir
