Half Dome – Yosemite Musing

Big John’s Birthday is being celebrated on Saturday April 18. He won’t be able to attend, but you can visit his home in Martinez for the annual shindig at the John Muir National Historic Site.  Mr. Muir was the great conservationist who led the battle to get Yosemite made into a National Park. He helped create the Sierra Club, explored Early Alaska and most important, was one of the first people up Half Dome in 1875. Sequoia Park Ranger Frank Helling does a good impersonation and he’ll be wandering round dressed as John. As a bonus, it’s also Earth Day! There will be music, food, and 50 exhibitors in the "Green Vein." This free event is sponsored by the John Muir Association. See their <website> for more information. Set your GPS to the John Muir National Historic Site at 4202 Alhambra Ave. Martinez, CA 94553.  It is north of Concord (west of I-680 and off Hwy 4).  Email me if you want to carpool. This is a must-do event for Half Dome fans.
